Schubert no longer just interim coach at Gladbach
November 13, 2015Borussia Mönchengladbach announced in a statement posted on its official website on Friday that it had signed interim coach Andre Schubert to a contract through the end of the 2016-17 season.
Schubert, who joined Gladbach as the club's under-23 coach this past July, took over as interim coach of the Bundesliga team on an interim basis on September 21, after Lucien Favre threw in the towel.
"Andre has done a very convincing job in the past eight weeks and achieved excellent results with the team," the statement quoted sporting director Max Eberl as saying. "We used the past few days for extensive talks and we know that our team is in good hands with him. Therefore we decided to give him a contract as head coach," Eberl explained.
Schubert's results on the pitch left Eberl with little option but to hire him full time, having taken over a last-placed team that had lost its first five games and leading it to sixth place in the table. Schubert tied a Bundesliga record by winning his first six games in charge. His first minor setback came in Gladbach's last game, a scoreless draw against Ingolstadt.
