Check-in presenter Lukas Stege explores the Saale and Unstrut region.
The countryside along the Saale and Unstrut rivers in central Germany, halfway between Leipzig and Weimar, is rich in castles and vineyards. Few people outside Germany have heard much about this area in the southern part of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, but that could well change. Between July 2nd and 12th, at its annual meeting in Krakow, Poland, the World Heritage Committee will decide whether the region will receive the coveted UNESCO seal. The application carries the heading, "Naumburg Cathedral and the High Medieval Cultural Landscape of the Rivers Saale and Unstrut." It represents a wealth of peerless historical treasures dating from the 11th to 13th centuries.
