German Cup
March 24, 2010German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen has made it into the final of the German Soccer Cup for the second year in a row. Werder beat second division team Augsburg 2-0 in the semi-final.
Midfielder Marko Marin scored the first goal of the game for Bremen 30 minutes in. Forward Claudio Pizarro sealed the deal in the 83rd minute, scoring off a free kick from Torsten Frings.
Augsburg missed its best chance at the 42nd minute. Second division top scorer Michael Thurk beat Bremen keeper Tim Wiese and sent a dribbler toward the goal. The shot seemed sure to hit the inside of the post and bounce in, but ended up deflecting back into play.
Joining Werder in the German Cup final on May 15 in Berlin will be the winner of Wednesday night's semi-final between Schalke 04 and Bayern Munich. Werder Bremen are the defending champions from the 2009 German Cup competition.
