December 7, 2012

"It is still November, but I have already started to arrange my house for Christmas. This year I decided to do something different..."

...it might take some time to finish. I will tell you why, but first I want to say some things about how my family and I celebrate this date.

For me, December 25 is not just Christmas Day; it is also the birthday of the most important person in my life: my mother. We always try to stay together on this date.

We usually meet at a relative’s house. Each family is responsible for bringing some kind of food or beverage. Sometimes we try to organize a “hidden friend”, which is very funny. We put presents under the Christmas tree, and the most interesting part is when we observe the children trying to guess who will win the biggest present.

My mother always helps with the food. At midnight, everybody goes to the dinner table and gives thanks for what happened during the year and for the opportunity to stay together again. After the Christmas meal, we open the presents. The children who were sleeping always think that Santa Claus brought something for them. At the end of the night, we start to think about where the next Christmas party will be.

But now let’s change the subject. Have you seen something different in my photo?
Well, I said that this year I would do something different: all the Christmas ornaments were made with recycled material. I was inspired by the German economy, which revolutionized recycling methods.

In this photo you can see my mother and I, hoping that Santa Claus will come join us. The Christmas tree was made with paper. We also tried to make an Advent calendar. Everything was made with paper, plastic bags, a cardboard box, Styrofoam, shredded paper and colored ink.

I wish you a Merry Christmas!
