The Sarko show is on the road this week as the President pays a much publicized visit to India. But consort Carla Bruni will be notably absent. Indian officials had worried beforehand about the diplomatic difficulties of hosting a presumably still unmarried couple. Even so, the visit is likely to produce headline material. Defence officials in New Delhi confirmed Thursday that French firms will be invited to upgrade India's fleet of Mirage fighters in a contract worth up to 1.5 billion euros. Sarkozy has made lucrative military deals - sometimes with rather problematic partners - one of his main aims since taking office.
