TT: Report from Georgia after the war (22.08.2008) je 10
Michael BärAugust 22, 2008
Russia has said it will complete a partial pullback of troops from Georgian territory today. Observers HAVE reported increased troop movements but the Georgian government and its Western allies remain sceptical. A ceasefire agreement with Georgia requires Russian forces +++LM-REIN+++ to withdraw to the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. But the peace plan brokered by France gives Russia the right to take unspecified additional security measures, pending the arrival of an international force. And Moscow says an unspecified number of what it calls "peacekeeping forces" will stay in place in Georgia proper. The South Ossetian capital Skin-valley and the Georgian town of Gori have both been badly affected by the conflict. +++LM-RAUS+++ DW-TV Russia correspondent Alexandra von Nahmen travelled to both cities and talked to victims on all sides of the conflict. She began her journey in a refugee camp in the Russian territory of North Ossetia.
