TT Climate Change: Despite Kyoto protocol: emissions continue to rise
Michael BärApril 28, 2009
The US is prepared to lead the effort to fight climate change. That's what Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told a meeting of 16 major economies on Monday. They account for roughly 75 percent of the globe's greenhouse gas emissions and have banded together in what they're calling the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate. Clinton told them the US is back in the game, as far as climate change is concerned, and eager to make up for lost time. There is much work to be done: the current regime for controlling emissions, the Kyoto Protocol, expires in 2012, and the targets it set have not been met by many countries.
