Trucks Avoid German Highways

Within the first few days of introducing the new toll revenue system for heavy trucks on German highways, the motor club ADAC said that a considerable number of trucks avoid using the highways, especially in the busy region of North Rhine-Westphalia. Instead they used country roads, Günther Trunz from the ADAC club told the magazine Focus. "We have an indication that a big food transport company from Dortmund instructed its drivers to first use the country roads B1 and B236 heading south," he said, adding that the trucks then get on to the highway in the city of Schwerte. This saves them approximately €1 per round. The percentage of dodgers has gone down approximately 3 to 5 percent as compared to the 8 percent in the first days. According to ADAC, the German control system is effective.
