Touring Museums
February 19, 2014Our three-city museum tour takes in the Old and the New Pinakothek in Munich. For generations, the rulers of the house of Wittelsbach collected the paintings and sculptures that make these galleries rank among the world's most important art museums.
In Germany's financial capital, Frankfurt, we visit the Städel Museum and the Schirn Kunsthalle. The Städel, named for banker and art collector Johann Friedrich Städel, is home to more than 3,000 paintings from the Middle Ages to modern times. In contrast, the Schirn has no collection of its own but provides space for visiting exhibitions.
In Berlin, we pay a visit to the Pergamon Museum with its artefacts of ancient cultures. And we stop by the Bode Museum, where the collection includes sculptures from different periods that attest to the beauty of art.
