With around 40 million followers on Facebook, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the world's most-followed leader on Facebook. The runner-up, US President Donald Trump, lags far behind him.
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi
According to a report released by PR firm Burson-Marsteller, India's Prime Minister Modi has 40 million followers on his personal page. With a population of more than 1.2 billion people, maybe it’s no surprise that India has the leader with the most Facebook followers. Still, Facebook CEO Zuckerberg cited the example to show how social networks can help governments connect with people.
US President Donald Trump
"Hm, could be more ..." US President Donald Trump has about 20 million followers on his personal page. His famous Twitter account has an even bigger following: 25 million. The study has analyzed the activity of 590 Facebook pages of heads of state and government and foreign ministers throughout 2016 using aggregate data from Facebook's Crowdtangle tool.
Obama not in the race
Despite not being a world leader in 2017, former US President Barack Obama’s Facebook account still has 54 million followers - almost as many as all the current world leaders counted together.

President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi of Egypt counts about 7 million followers. The report paid extra attention to how often leaders post content and how many "total engagements" (likes, comments and shares) each post receives.
Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen
The study also analyzes social media interactions the leaders have with people. According to the report, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen's Facebook account has garnered over 58 million interactions, placing him in third position after Modi.
