The Dark Side of Red Bull - The Perils of Extreme Sports
July 22, 2013
Red Bull has created an empire worth billions with its energy drinks. One reason for its success is its unique marketing machine. Red Bull has changed Formula 1, sponsored a jump from the stratosphere and taken extreme sports to the limit. But there is a growing amount of criticism regarding these publicity stunts. A number of athletes have suffered fatal accidents during some of the events.
In 2009 a Swiss base jumper died after a jump from a tall building. A Canadian extreme skier jumped from a 300 metre high cliff in the Dolomites. He died during the attempt. In The Dark Side of Red Bull we look into six such tragic deaths. We speak to relatives, friends and advertising experts from Europe and the US. This documentary also asks whether or not Red Bull is prepared to take a public stance on the growing criticism.
