The big question for the remaining quarterfinalists
The expanded field at the European Championship has been narrowed down, and each of the teams reached this stage in very different ways. Here are the questions that each side needs to answer in the quarterfinals.
Can Belgium's golden generation cash in?
After surrendering top spot to Italy in the group stage, it seemed like Belgium were not living up to the No. 2 FIFA ranking they had entering in the tournament. However, a dominant display against Hungary seems to have put them back on track. Their 'golden generation' of stars didn't quite click in the early stages, can they finally get on the same page in the quarterfinals?
Will suspensions stop France?
France have shown flashes of brilliance at Euro 2016, but they must overcome significant significant absences in order to reach the last four. Defensive cornerstones N'Golo Kante (left) and Adil Rami (middle) will miss their match against Iceland after getting two yellow cards. Will Didier Deschamps' back up men be able to keep the hosts in their tournament?
Have Germany found the right blend?
Joachim Löw has used four different lineups for the four games Germany has played at Euro 2016, but it seems he seems to have found the right formula. Mario Gomez and Julian Draxler have seized their opportunities in attack, and Joshua Kimmich has proven to be a very good right back. After consecutive impressive performances has Löw now settled on his starting eleven?
Will the miracle of Iceland continue?
From their post-game celebration to the viking attire their supporters wear, Iceland have taken Euro 2016 by storm. It's difficult to find someone who doesn't know the population of Iceland at this point in the tournament, as headlines focus on the small country's success. With an organized team and a knack for scoring goals, might France pay for taking these underdogs a little too lightly?
Can Italy continue to defy the doubters?
When experts were making their picks for the Euro 2016 favorites, very few had Italy on their list. With victories over Belgium and Spain, the 2012 finalists have shown they have some of their swagger back. Graziano Pelle (right) and Emmanuel Giaccherini have given this historically defenisve team some attacking force. Will it be enough to beat a German defense yet to concede?
Can Bale carry Wales?
While other superstars have failed to make an impact at Euro 2016, Gareth Bale has driven his Wales team to their first quarterfinal appearance at the Euros. He has played a part in four of Wales's seven goals at the Euros, two of which gave Wales the lead and one of which was an equalizer. After playing second-fiddle at Real Madrid, can he escape Cristiano Ronaldo's shadow?
