Stick to the protocol: Politicians and their memorable mishaps
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has put his, er, foot in it again. But he's certainly not alone in forgetting or blatantly ignoring the correct protocol when it comes to behaving appropriately.
Boris puts his foot in it — again
Boris Johnson is no stranger to a faux pas and likes to cultivate his image as a blundering, average bloke. But this attempt to make himself at home in the Elysee Palace in Paris appeared a little too relaxed. Pretty sure Emmanuel Macron didn't find his behavior "delicieux."
Go on, give us a kiss
A penny for current Democratic House speaker Nancy Pelosi's thoughts as she tries to stave off the advances of then Republican Speaker of the house, John Boehner. "If only I could grab that gavel...."
Are you even listening?
No one messes with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. But even she seems stumped by US President Donald Trump's complete lack of anything remotely statesmanlike. On the rare occasions Merkel and Trump have met bilaterally, the US president has made a habit of ignoring diplomatic protocol, even refusing to offer Merkel a handshake.
Up yours!
Not someone to beat around the bush, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has allegedly paid for extrajudicial killings, launched an indiscriminate war on drugs in which at least 6,000 people have been killed and has been dubbed "misogynist-in-chief." This gesture during a gun amnesty event was meant to encourage military personnel to not give up their weapons so easily while facing the enemy.
Pink looks lovely on you, Ma'am
OK, so royal protocol dictates that YOU DO NOT TOUCH THE QUEEN! But we'll let this one go. It's Michelle Obama, after all.
Touchy-feely
Stephanie Carter's expression says it all, really. Joe Biden is no stranger to controversy and has been accused of several #metoo moments since he joined the 2020 presidential race.
"Ooh la la!" "Hang on Nick, I've got got this"
No doubt Michelle will have had a word after Barack got home. The man to Obama's right, Nicolas Sarkozy, was French president at the time. Apart from being married to former supermodel Carla Bruni, his other claim to fame is that he's due to face trial this year on corruption charges.
