Schalke and Dortmund draw on derby draw

Schalke 1 - 1 Dortmund

You don't score your first professional goal every day - certainly not for your hometown team, in the derby against their archrivals, to tie the score. But Thilo Kehrer did just that in the Revierderby. Playing in only his 11th Bundesliga game, Kehrer was able to cancel out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's 24th goal of the campaign.

Aubameyang, meanwhile, had drawn the ire of the home fans by pulling out one of his goal celebration masks in the hostile cauldron of the Veltins Arena. Ousmane Dembele impressed in particular in the build-up, superbly timing a pass to release Kagawa, who then put it on a plate for the Gabon international.

Home fans might have felt hard done by in the closing phases of the game, as a shot struck Marc Bartra's raised hand in the penalty area. At first, the referee seemed ready to blow his whistle, but he ultimately took no action.

In the broader sense of the league campaign, a solitary point helps neither side particularly. Dortmund lost third place to Hoffenheim as a result, while Schalke missed the chance to leapfrog Freiburg.

Bayern Munich 6 - 0 Augsburg

Despite all the goals from Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Müller, it was a moment of magic from midfielder Thiago that set Bayern on course for three exceedingly comfortable points. Thiago picked out Lewandowski in the box with a diagonal, driven pass, with the perfect mix of pace and elevation. The Pole rarely misses such opportunities and would go on to net two more - taking his tally for the Bundesliga season to 24 goals.

Lewandowski also became the first ever player to score in six consecutive games at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, and secured his fourth consecutive season with more than 22 Bundesliga goals.

Müller also continued to show signs of rediscovering his scoring boots. The German international hit the post twice in the first half before bundling in his first of the day. His second was a tidier finish, after Lewandowski turned provider. Thiago later found the net himself to cap a fine performance pulling the strings in the center.

Hamburg 2 - 1 Cologne

HSV have not lost a game at home this season after taking the lead, a record they ultimately retained on Saturday. Nicolai Müller put the in-form Dinosaurs in front by nutmegging Cologne's keeper Timo Horn early in the first period.

But former Dortmund midfielder Milos Jojic tied the game with a back-post diving header barely 10 minutes later, piling the pressure back on the hosts.

Not until the dying moments did the home team find a breakthrough - despite heroic efforts from Timo Horn to keep the ball out of the net. After twin saves from close in, the ball finally fell to Lewis Holtby, who made no mistake in securing another three points for Markus Gisdol's side. The win catapults HSV up to 13th in the table - Cologne miss the chance to overtake Hertha in fifth.

Freiburg 2 - 5 Bremen

Werder Bremen put Freiburg to the sword so effectively in the first period that coach Christian Streich used all three of his available subs at the half. Freiburg had never done that in the Bundesliga before.

Max Kruse's opener was a clear contender for the best strike of the day - a rocket of a left-footer bound for the top corner against his old club. However, Bremen's unlikely hero on the day was midfield anchorman Thomas Delaney. Rarely known for his offensive exploits, Delaney bagged a hat trick. He was even the creator of Finn Bartel's Bremen goal, providing the off-target shot that Bartels skillfully redirected towards goal.

Despite brief signs of life after the break, and goals from Nils Petersen and Vincenzo Grifo, Bremen rarely looked in real danger. Alexander Nouri's team climb to 11th in the table with the win, while Freiburg's abysmal -13 goal difference means that they are at risk of slipping to ninth if Borussia Mönchengaldbach can beat Frankfurt on Saturday evening.

Leipzig  4 - 0 Darmstadt

Both these teams were in Germany's third tier just three years ago, but the match demonstrated how much higher Leipzig have flown with Red Bull's support. Naby Keita, back from suspension, set things rolling early on and added a second late in the game.

Darmstadt fought hard and generated several first-half chances, but ultimately quality - and perhaps physical conditioning - shone through. Three goals in the last 25 minutes consigned Darmstadt to another defeat and the bottom of the table.

Leipzig, meanwhile, stretch their legs in second as Dortmund dropped points in the derby. They sit four points ahead of Hoffenheim and five in front of BVB.

Eintracht Frankfurt 0-0 Borussia Mönchengladbach

In a dress rehearsal of their upcoming German Cup semi-final, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Mönchengladbach played out an insipid draw at the Commerzbank Arena.

Marco Fabian had the chance to win the game from the penalty spot on 77 minutes after Oscar Wendt handled in the box, but the Mexican was denied. Gladbach keeper Yann Sommer was up to the task as the Eagles passed up their fourth penalty kick from five this season.

The Foals were stripped down to 10 men with six minutes to go when Tobias Strobl was sent off for a second professional foul. However, Niko Kovac's side failed to take advantage and remain the worst team in the Bundesliga in 2017 with no win in seven games.
