"Rosewood" Spy Files Open for Researchers

Journalists and historians may now access the so-called Rosewood files, documents about West German spies who worked for the East German secret police, the Stasi. The United States gave the files to Germany in July 2003 after years of wrangling and over a decade after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Since then the Stasi archive has been assessing and cataloguing the thousands of secret documents. The head of the archive, Marianne Birthler said she expected the files to provide few surprising revelations. It remains unclear how the CIA got its hands on the Rosewood files.
