German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said she deeply regrets the resignation of defence minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, one of the country's most popular politicians. She praised zu Guttenberg as a man of extraordinary political talent, and expressed hope that after the allegations against him had cleared, the two could continue to work together in some way. Zu Guttenberg resigned in Tuesday after mounting pressure over plagiarism accusations.
