Floridian hits record jackpot
May 19, 2013The winning ticket for the Powerball lottery jackpot, worth a whopping $590.5 million (454.7 million euros), was sold at a supermarket in Zephyrhills, Florida, lottery officials announced late Saturday night.
No one has stepped forward publicly as the winner.
The grand prize was accumulated after two months of drawings failed to yield a winner.
Lottery officials estimated that about 80 percent of all possible number combinations had been purchased by people in the 43 participating states, Washington, DC, and the US Virgin Islands.
The Mega Millions, a separate but similar multistate lottery, still holds the largest jackpot ever, at $656 million in March 2012. Powerball's previous record of $587.5 million also came last year, in November.
Saturday night's winning numbers were 10, 13, 14, 22 and 52, with a Powerball of 11.
