Versailles Palace near Paris is the epitome of the style of the Sun King Louis XIV's rule: ostentatious, majestic, absolutist. The splendid chateau is one of the biggest palace complexes in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Originally a hunting lodge, it was extended from the middle of the 17th century onwards by Louis XIV to become the world renowned fairytale palace. The Baroque construction, covering over 63,000 square meters and a park of 642 hectares, attracts some 21,000 visitors every day.
