Nuremberg beat Eintracht Frankfurt at home on Friday 3-0, making it their fourth straight Bundesliga win in a row. Nuremberg dominated for most of the evening, but Frankfurt's strong defense held them off until the second half.
Then in the 67th minute a free-kick from 30 meters out by Julian Schieber streaked past Frankfurt's goalkeeper Oka Nikolov. Three minutes before the end, Robert Mak sealed the win with a well-taken lob. Rubbing salt in Frankfurt's wound, Almog Cohen scored a third goal in injury time.
The win puts Nuremberg in 6th place in the league standings with 35 points, while Frankfurt slips to 12th with 27 points. Frankfurt has performed the worst of any Bundesliga team since the return from winter break.
The Bundesliga's run-away leaders, however, are Borussia Dortmund with a 10-point gap between them and the second-placed Bayer Leverkusen. On Saturday Dortmund plays at home against St. Pauli.
A Hamburg derby win for St. Pauli
On Wednesday St. Pauli stunned their city rivals SV Hamburg, with a 1-0 win in a rescheduled Bundesliga match. Hamburg dominated in the first half and the beginning of the second but failed to find the breakthrough they needed.
Then in the 59th minute Fabian Boll extended a corner to Gerald Asamoah, who headed the ball in. It was only Hamburg's third home defeat of the season and the first time St. Paul has won the Hamburg derby. The game was originally scheduled for February 9 but was postponed after heavy rain left the pitch unplayable.
