Rats have been a regular feature on the streets of New York City since it was founded in the early 17th century. It’s estimated that there is at least one rat for every person in the city – that’s 8.4 million. The statistic has been repeated so many times it’s believed to be fact. But local statistician Jonathan Auerbach has debunked the “urban myth” by conducting his own rat census of the city.
