Mapping the world’s oceans

The fruitless search for the Malaysian passenger jet MH370 which disappeared en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur is a reminder of the vastness of the world’s oceans. In fact, only about five percent of the sea floor has been mapped. In the age of satellites, robots and computers, we’re starting to learn more about the great unknown.
