The Danube is Europe’s second-longest river, stretching from Germany to Romania and Ukraine. The delta is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which hosts more than 300 species of birds and over 40 species of freshwater fish. But only 20 percent of ecosystems in the river network have a "good or above" status. New plans are underway to improve water quality and flood protection in Romania’s Danube Delta.
