Germany coach Jürgen Klinsmann said on Thursday he opposes Franz Beckenbauer's idea that the Bundesliga should expand from 18 to 20 teams in line with other major European leagues. "The calendar is full. More important is the question of the quality of the Bundesliga. That's where we're losing out," Klinsmann told Kicker magazine. Former Germany coach Beckenbauer, who heads the 2006 World Cup organising committee, earlier this week said: "Of the five big European nations, four have leagues with 20 teams. We have the most people and allow ourselves the luxury of the smallest league. The country could cope with more football."
