Italy holds mass funeral for victims of the earthquake that hit the Abruzzo

Italy has held a mass funeral for victims of the devastating earthquake that hit the Abruzzo region on Monday. Prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, president Giorgio Napolitano and the Vatican's second-highest cleric joined thousands of mourners to pay their last respects to the nearly 290 people who died in the disaster. "I share your anguish" said Pope Benedict in a message read out at the service. The Pope is expected to visit the region in person soon.
