On August 13, 1961, the East German government sealed off the western half of Berlin by building a wall across the city. It was to become a death strip for hundreds who were to try and scale the concrete and barbed wire barrier. It was a wall of misery for millions and a physical reminder of the Cold War politics which divided Europe. Willy Mauhs looks back at life with the Berlin Wall.
