The Italian island of Lampedusa is mainly known for being a hotspot for immigration to Europe. But little is known about the islanders who left Lampedusa because of hunger and misery just over a century ago. Back then, Lampedusans crossed the Mediterranean in the opposite direction, seeking a better life. Angelo van Schaik reports on this island of migrants.
