Burma Cyclone
May 6, 2008UN teams and international aid groups are rushing food supplies and humanitarian aid to Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, after the country was hit by a cyclone that killed more than 20,000 people and left hundreds of thousands homeless. Food and drinking water are reported to be in short supply after Cyclone Nargis swept through the Irrawaddy Delta and the country's main city, Yangon, early Saturday, May 3.
Several international aid organizations are already active in the region and have begun calling for donations to help the victims of the cyclone. The following is a list of some of the largest agencies. Readers should consult the regional chapters or affiliates from each organization to see how best to make the donations.
