One in eight people in the world still does not have enough to eat, according to this year's Global Hunger Index.
Despite a reduction of 34 per cent in hunger globally since 1990, new conflicts, crises and environmental disasters mean that the food situation is constantly unstable.
People living in Malawi and Somalia continue to suffer the effects of drought and famine. Refugees fleeing the crisis in Syria are dying from malnourishment, while in Europe, the economic situation has led to as many as one in three people going hungry.
