Four die in Nairobi car bombing
April 23, 2014Police said the vehicle had exploded outside Pangani police station on Wednesday evening. in one of Nairobi's poorer neighborhoods, Eastleigh. The interior ministry later confirmed there had been four fatalities.
The attack took place close to an area of the city targeted in past bomb and grenade attacks that police claim were carried out by Somali militants.
"At least four dead after a sedan exploded at Pangani police station, of which two are police officers," the ministry tweeted. "Agents intercepted the suspect car at traffic lights and took the suspects away for questioning," it added, without giving further details.
There have been numerous terror warnings and heightened security in Kenya in recent months, following a September attack by gunmen on the Westgate Mall shopping center, in which at least 67 people were killed.
Most alerts have been linked with the al-Shabab group, which claimed responsibility for the Westgate attack.
