In German news.. the leader of junior governing partner FDP, and foreign minister Guido Westerwelle has once again called for major tax cuts at a party conference. This puts the FDP on collision course with Chancellor Angela Merkel's CDU party - which says the country, with its record budget deficit, cannot afford the cuts right now. All this comes ahead of a crucial regional vote which could end the governing coalition's majority in the upper house of parliament.
