Explosion hits Tel Aviv bus
November 21, 2012Shortly after the blast, the spokesperson to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Ofir Gendelman, posted a message on Twitter, saying: "A bomb exploded on a bus in central Tel Aviv. This was a terrorist attack. Most of the injured suffered only mild injuries."
The bus was near the Israeli Defense Ministry when the bomb was detonated.
No one has claimed responsibility for the bomb in Tel Aviv, however Hamas spokesperson Abu Zuhri did praise the attack.
"Palestinian factions will resort to all means in order to protect our Palestinian civilians in the absence of a world effort to stop aggression," Abu Zuhri told Reuters news agency.
An armed conflict between Israel and militants in the Gaza Strip began last week.
The blast came as international leaders were working toward brokering a truce. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem, before travelling to Cairo.
Since then, more than 130 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed in an air campaign. Rocket fire from the Gaza Strip has killed five people in Israel, two of them on Tuesday.
