DW presents the Beethovenfest to the world

As the Beethovenfest's main media partner, Deutsche Welle (DW) will draw on its media and cultural expertise to bring audiences around the world closer to the Bonn music festival taking place from September 5 to October 5, 2013.

DW will accompany the Beethovenfest with a comprehensive package of journalistic content including reports in the TV magazine Arts.21, as well as on the multimedia website dw.de with audio and video elements in English, German, Russian and further languages. Deutsche Welle will also deliver concert recordings and radio shows to partner stations for rebroadcasting in the US, Russia, Turkey and in countries in South America.

Deutsche Welle plans also to participate in the festival's public viewing event at the central market square in Bonn. On September 27 at 5 p.m. MEST, guests can take in a live stage program followed by a transmission of Beethoven's sole opera, "Fidelio," streamed from a performance across town in the Beethoven Hall.

Orchestra Campus "Beethoven ile buluşma - Encounter with Beethoven"

The Orchestra Campus project, co-sponsored by Deutsche Welle and the Beethovenfest Bonn since 2001, represents an annual festival highlight by bringing a youth orchestra from abroad to Bonn for workshops and performances. Turkey is the partner country for the current, three-year edition of the Orchestra Campus, and German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle serves as patron of this year's project. The partner in 2013 is the Istanbul University State Conservatory Orchestra with around 70 musicians under Artistic Director Ramiz Malik Aslanov. In 2012, the German initiative "Germany - Land of Ideas" honored the Orchestra Campus project as one of the country's best ideas.

Topics relating to Turkey will be in focus in DW's coverage and at various events. For example, DW and the Turkish Embassy plan to host a workshop concert at the BerlinUniversity of the Arts on September 26 featuring the Turkish youth orchestra. On September 29, a German-Turkish symposium will be held at Deutsche Welle in Bonn, highlighting the role of media, and social media in particular, when it comes to cultural exchange and dialogue. DW's Turkish Department will bring the project's motto to life on its website, www.dw.de/turkish, which is set to present content that includes a German-Turkish multimedia project on the Beethovenfest.

Turkish musician commissioned to compose an orchestral piece

Every year, DW commissions a new composition from a young musician who hails from the partner country for the Orchestra Campus project. Turkish composer Zeynep Gedizlioglu (*1977) was commissioned to write the piece for this year. The youth orchestra led by Ramiz Malik Aslanov will premiere the work by Gedizlioglu at the festival on October 3, 2013. Gedizlioglu currently lives in Berlin. In 2012, she won the Composers' Prize from the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
