Comic Salon

The 13th International Comic Salon in Erlangen, Germany will open its doors on May 22. The focus this year of the "largest and most important comic festival in German-speaking countries" is Manhua – Comic in China Today. This work is from artist Xia Da.

The word "manhua" refers to any comic produced in China -- similar to the Korean "manhwa" and Japanese "manga." This work is by Mu Feng Chun.

This work by artist Benjamin is entitled "Remember."

Along with the China exhibit, comic artists from all over the world are also featured. This work is by one of Germany's most successful comic artists Ralf Koenig.

This work is by Cologne-based artist Reinhard Kleist.

Hendrik Dorgathen is a German artist based in Mülheim an der Ruhr.

This work is part of the book "The Innocent" by Italian comic artist Gipi.

Guy Delisle is a Canadian comic book author whose 2004 book "Pyonyang" recounts his experiences after spending two months in the North Korean capital.

Works by French artists, like this one by Claire Len, are also included in the exhibit. The girl thinks, "Oh! It's the end of the trunk!"

The exhibit featuring the works of French artist Christophe Blain is called "Epische Reisen" or "Epic Voyages."

Canadian graphic artist Ho Che Anderson is best known for his comic series about the life of civil rights activist Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.
