Chinese fishermen fight against forced relocation

China is the fastest developing nation in the world. As the economy grows, so do social tensions, as millions of people across the country are forced out of their homes to make way for new city constructions. Tensions between locals and developers have led to riots in some parts of the country.

Tropical Hainan Island in the South China Sea, was recently selected a ‘test case in developing an internationally competitive tourist destination’. Hainan has become a symbol of China’s growing affluence, and the increasing wealth gap - many locals, who have lived in Hainan for generations, say they are being priced out, and in some cases forcefully pushed out of their communities.
