Barcelona 7-0 Celtic (Messi 3', 27', 60', Neymar 50', Iniesta 59', Suarez 75', 88')
Barcelona put any suggestions of a dip in form to bed with a 7-0 rout of Celtic.
Their shock La Liga defeat by Alaves was a distant memory as early as the third minute, when Lionel Messi opened the scoring with his first touch, lashing in from close-range after the Celtic defence opened up.
Celtic spurned a brilliant opportunity to level from the spot after Marc-Andre ter Stegen brought down Moussa Dembele, but Ter Stegen atoned by saving Dembele's penalty. That proved the turning point as Barcelona racked up the score.
Two minutes later Barca went 2-0 up, with Neymar and Messi combining and the latter walking the ball in. Neymar got on the score sheet early in the second half, scoring a wonderful free-kick.
Andres Iniesta added a fourth with a sweet volley and Messi completed his hat-trick on the hour to make it 5-0. But Barca weren't done there, with Luis Suarez adding the sixth and seventh to rub salt into the wound. The seven-goal margin is the biggest Barcelona have recorded in the Champions League or European Cup.
Paris Saint-Germain 1-1 Arsenal (Cavani 1' - Sanchez 78' )
Alexis Sanchez's late equalizer snatched a draw for Arsenal against French champions Paris Saint-Germain, who largely dominated the encounter on matchday one.
The Gunners went behind after 45 seconds when Edinson Cavani headed home a cross from Serge Aurier. But Unai Emery's side couldn't kill the game off due to their own sloppiness in front of goal. Cavani missed several one-on-one situations and was thwarted by Arsenal keeper David Ospina who was given the man of the match prize.
Arsenal took advantage with 12 minutes left when Mesut Özil's cross picked out Alex Iwobi, but the midfielder's shot landed as far as Sanchez who scored his second goal of the season. Olivier Giroud and Marco Verratti were both dismissed after a second bookable offence in the final few minutes.
PSV Eindhoven 0-1 Atletico Madrid (Niguez 43')
Last season's defeated finalists Atletico Madrid started strongly in the Netherlands, beating PSV Eindhoven 1-0 in a repeat of their last 16 tie in February.
Diego Simeone's side were defensively assured and carried a regular threat on the break with new signing Kevin Gameiro impressing. After a slow start, the game came to life late on in the first half when Saul Niguez volleyed home a precise effort from the edge of the box.
Two minutes later, PSV were awarded a controversial penalty when Luciano Narsingh went down without contact. Mexican Andres Guardado rifled his kick towards goal, but it was saved superbly by Jan Oblak.
