Over the past few days, high-powered forums sought to re-assure the world that they are taking steps to avert a threatening global financial crisis. The G-7 and International Monetary Fund met in Washington. European Union leaders met in Paris. The initial market response is now clear after the week started off with a strong relief rally. But focus is already shifting to what lies further down the road and how effective rescue efforts will be.
