Bundesliga Round 12 in Pictures
Dortmund's wild, weird and anything but wonderful domestic season continued, while Bayern cruised and a number of teams pulled off comebacks. Here's a vivid look at all the Round 12 action.
Paderborn shock Dortmund
There are two ways of looking at the 2-2 draw between these teams. Dortmund just can't seem to get going, and Paderborn simply can't be stopped. When the men in yellow went up by a pair of goals, the result seemed inevitable. It wasn't. Good work by the minnows.
Schalke survive a thriller versus Wolfsburg
The Royal Blues could have, should have put this one away early after they jumped out to a three goal lead over second-placed Wolfsburg inside 25 minutes. But Schalke have a habit of making things interesting, and they did in this match as well, needing a bit of luck to secure a 3-2 win.
Bayern roll over Hoffenheim
Both of these men, Robert Lewandowski and Arjen Robben, scored in Bayern's 4-0 cakewalk home win over Hoffenheim. But the happiest man of the day isn't in this picture. Bastian Schweinsteiger made his comeback after more than four months without a competitive match.
Frankfurt put the hurt on Gladbach
Saturday didn't start well for the Eagles, as their hosts jumped out to an early lead. But the team, which was coming off five losses in a row, didn't hang their heads and staged an impressive second-half comeback, winning 3-1.
Freiburg and Mainz split the points
This was a game between two teams treading water at the moment - Mainz just below the international spots in the table, Freiburg just above the drop zone. The result was a 2-2 draw after a late equalizer by hosts Mainz.
Leverkusen leap back into top four
After a bright start, Leverkusen faltered and fell off most people's radar screens. After a convincing 3-1 away win in Hanover, the Pharmaceuticals are back in the Champions League realms of the table.
Bank shot puts Hertha past Cologne
Saturday's late match was a rugged, sometimes unsightly affair. Marcel Njeng banked in a late free kick to give Hertha Berlin a 2-1 win. The three points could be Berlin's last of 2014. Their next opponents are Bayern, Gladbach, Dortmund and Hoffenheim.
Hamburg beat Bremen, score slapstick goal
It was worth the wait. In one of the worst matches of the Bundesliga season, football-wise, it took Hamburg until minute 84 to get on the scoreboard. But the real highlight was yet to come. In injury time, Hamburg managed to hit the post after a 4-on-1 breakaway from roughly six inches. Bremen keeper Raphael Wolf inadvertantly pushed the ball over the line for a comic own goal.
Augsburg beat ten-man Stuttgart
Bottom-of-the-table Stuttgart have developed a habit of shooting themselves in the foot. At home against Augsburg, one culprit was Daniel Schwaab who got sent off after less than half an hour. Fourty minutes later Adam Hlousek handled the ball in the box. Augsburg converted the resulting penalty for a 1-0 win.
