Building collapses in New York City

A fire has engulfed a commercial and residential block in New York City's East Village. Images on Twitter appear to show a partial building collapse.

One person was critically injured following the incident on Thursday.

Images showed a residential apartment building engulfed in flames and heavy smoke. Multiple news outlets reported that a building partially collapsed. One report said an explosion caused the collapse.

Rescuers and the fire department are currently on the scene.
