Bison gores woman at US national park
June 8, 2018The Californian Kim Hancock, 59, was with a group of tourists visiting the famous park – located in the western US states of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho – on Wednesday when she approached the bull bison while walking along a boardwalk.
"When it crossed the boardwalk, the bison became agitated and charged the crowd, goring Hancock," park officials said in a statement. "The bison immediately left the area." Hancock was treated at a nearby hospital in Montana and was listed in good condition.
It was the second such attack this year. On May 1, a 72-year-old woman from Idaho was slightly injured by a bison as she walked on a trail in the park and came upon the animal.
Park officials noted that four people have been injured by wildlife in the park in a little over a month and urged visitors to maintain a safe distance from the animals that include bears, wolves and elk.
