Bayern Munich's reward for disposing of Spanish giants Real Madrid is a Champions League quarter-final tie against Italian heavyweights AC Milan, the conquerors of Scottish champions Celtic in the previous round.

The Rossoneri have won the European Cup six times to Bayern's four and will prove another hard test for Ottmar Hitzfeld's resurgent side when they meet in Milan for the first leg on April 3 and then in the Allianz Arena a week later.

If Bayern beat Milan, they will face either Manchester United or AS Roma in the semi-finals.

Potential re-run of 1999 final in 2007 semis

A match-up against Manchester would give Munich the opportunity to avenge the heart-breaking final loss sustained in 1999, when two goals in stoppage time secured the trophy for the English Premiership side after trailing Bayern 1-0 for 90 minutes.

United will first have to overcome Roma, who beat Lyon 2-0 away on Tuesday night to progress to the quarter-finals.

The other English teams -- Liverpool and Chelsea -- are also kept apart. Liverpool, the 2005 Champions League winners, face PSV Eindhoven.

The Dutch champions, who beat Arsenal 2-1 over two legs in the previous round, held the Merseysiders to one draw and then were beaten by the Reds 2-0 in this season's group stage, will provide Liverpool with a tricky task. However, after knocking out title holders Barcelona, Rafa Benitez's team will fear no-one.

Chelsea face Spanish side Valencia, who progressed in controversial fashion after beating Inter Milan on away goals after drawing 2-2 in the San Siro and holding the Italian champions 0-0 in the Mestalla. Valencia were lucky to be in Friday's draw after a brawl at the final whistle of their quarter-final match threatened their future involvement in the competition.

The English champions overcame manager Jose Morinho's former team Porto in the previous round. Germany captain Michael Ballack's late strike securing a 2-1 win on the night, and a 3-2 win on aggregate.
