Schweinsteiger insists he will be ready for Euros
February 25, 2016Bastian Schweinsteiger expects to return from his knee ligament injury in March, removing any doubt over his fitness for the European Championships this summer.
"I should be completely back on board in March," the German national team captain told German newspaper Bild. "Unless the European Championships is suddenly brought forward to the start of March, then it looks good."
Schweinsteiger injured his knee during Manchester United's 1-0 win in the FA Cup against Sheffield United in early January. The 31-year-old midfielder has missed Manchester United's last nine games, but he could return to individual training next week.
"A medial ligament tear takes time, but everything is healing well. I know my body, everything will be ok," said Schweinsteiger. "In about five days, I'll begin to start running again and five days after that I should be training with a ball again.
Schweinsteiger had a string of injury concerns in his last two years with Bayern Munich before moving to Manchester last summer. He missed half of Germany's qualifiers for the European Championships due to injury.
Nevertheless, he insists his injuries have not slowed him down. "Despite suspension and injury, I have still managed to play in 27 games this season," said the veteran. "Things could have gone better, but this discussion is already very laborious."
