Wolves fail to break Augsburg

Early in the match, it had seemed that Augsburg might even cause another real upset, putting Wolfsburg under some pressure through Aristide Bance.

However, the towering striker was unable to make the most of the chances that fell to him - set pieces providing some of the better opportunities.

After the break it was Wolfsburg that looked to be the more imaginative team - but they too, were unable to make any breakthrough.

The visitors, coming off the back of a 4-0 thrashing against Hanover, did have one close chance as substitute Bad Dost headed across the goal for Thomas Kahlenberg to nod it to the post. His effort was denied by keeper Mohamed Amsif.

"We kept a clean sheet, that is important for me," said Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath. "When it comes to the attack, we still have some work to do."

The draw means that Augsburg leave the relegation zone with one point, while ninth-placed Wolfsburg now have four points after three matches.

Instead of the teams wearing the names of their usual sponsors on their jerseys, both wore shirts bearing the logo "Geh deinen Weg" (walk your path) - part of a Bundesliga initiative to promote greater integration in Germany. The message is to be repeated at other top-flight games this weekend.

Top-of-the-table Bayern Munich are looking for their third win of the season on Saturday, playing host to Mainz, while current champions Borussia Dortmund are at home to Bayer Leverkusen.
